With its calming properties and varied uses, lavender oil is often a must-have oil people simply don’t want to be without.

Lavender oil is a favorite addition to perfumes, soaps and candles because of its pleasant floral scent. But it’s more than just a charming smell. It also has a whole host of benefits that date back thousands of years. Many believe it’s even referenced throughout the Bible.

Do you remember the biblical story about Mary breaking a bottle of spikenard on the ground and then washing Jesus’ feet with her hair? The oil in that bottle is thought to have been lavender, chosen specifically for its elegant, soothing support. And that’s just one piece of lavender oil’s incredible history.

Another amazing story happened over 100 years ago when a French researcher named René-Maurice Gattefossé suffered chemical burns all over his arm. He soaked his arm in a vat of lavender oil and—by accident—he experienced the benefits lavender oil can have for the skin. In fact, he believed his third-degree burns were greatly helped, thanks to lavender oil.

Since then, lavender essential oil has been shown to support even more aspects of healthy skin, and when I get a scrape, burn or struggle with skin issues, organic lavender oil is my go-to. I just mix a few drops with a little bit of coconut oil and rub it right onto my skin.

General Directions for Use:

Diffusion: Use three to four drops in a diffuser.

Internal use: Dilute one drop in at least 4 fluid ounces of liquid.

Topical use: Apply one to two drops to desired area. Dilute with a carrier oil of your choice to minimize any skin sensitivity.

Cautions: Possible skin sensitivity. Consult your physician before use, especially if pregnant, nursing, taking medication or if you have a medical condition. Avoid eyes, mucous membranes, and sensitive skin. Keep out of reach of children.
